1. Reading:
The Book Thief, (Knopf), by Marcus Zusak. We're reading this in my 10th Honors English class right now, but it's one of those books I read FIRST on my own and thought: I MUST teach this to my class. It's simply unlike any book I've read; sporting Bradburyesque imagery but delivered in a contemporary narrative. Also very nonlinear, which of course I've got a soft spot for. One of those books that makes me realize all my shortcomings and limitations as a writer.
- Something Wicked This Way Comes,
by Ray Bradbury. This is an annual must. Poetic, touching, eerie, thrilling...in my mind, the
quintessential Halloween/buddies novel.
2. Just finished:
-Boy's Life, (Pocket Books) by Robert McCammon. Guess what? I just found a book I MUST make my students read. Can't even summarize how I feel about this book; will have to make a separate blog entry for this...
3. Just came in the mail:
Slippin' Into Darkness, (Kennsington), by Norman Patridge. This is a new big thing with me; when I discover an author that really HITS me, I go back and start collecting their early works. I peeked a little, and this looks like something I'm really going to enjoy...
4. Just ordered:
End Times, (PS Publishing), by Rio Youers. It's a ghost story. Of loss, betrayal, pain, hardship...all the things that make us painfully and wonderfully human...oh, and did I mention ghost story....?
Some really great titles there Kevin! I need to add them to my shelf!
